Calculation Method

gross = (sell_price − buy_price) × quantity
total_fees = buy_fee + sell_fee
net_profit = gross − total_fees
cost_basis = buy_price × quantity + buy_fee
pct_return = net_profit ÷ cost_basis × 100
buy_price
— USD price per coin when bought.
sell_price
— USD price per coin when sold.
quantity
— number of coins traded.
buy_fee / sell_fee
— exchange fees in USD.

Examples

Example 1 — 0.5 BTC trade with fees

You bought 0.5 BTC at $54,900 with a $25 fee, then sold at $68,450 with a $25 fee. Gross profit = ($68,450 − $54,900) × 0.5 = $6,775. Total fees = $50. Net profit = $6,725. Cost basis = $54,900 × 0.5 + $25 = $27,475 → 24.48% return.

Example 2 — 2 ETH at a loss

You bought 2 ETH at $4,100 with a $12 fee, then sold at $3,820 with a $12 fee. Gross = ($3,820 − $4,100) × 2 = −$560. Fees = $24. Net loss = −$584. Cost basis = $4,100 × 2 + $12 = $8,212 → −7.11% return.

Frequently Asked Questions

Net profit equals gross gain ((sell price − buy price) × quantity) minus your buy and sell fees. It is the dollar amount you actually take home after the round-trip trade.
Yes — once you enter the buy fee and sell fee in USD, both are subtracted from the gross profit so the result is your true net P&L.
Realized. The calculator assumes you have actually sold the position. For an unrealized number, enter the current market price as the sell price and set sell fee to 0.
No — this tool gives you the net P&L only. For US capital-gains tax estimates, use our Crypto Tax Calculator after determining your holding period.
Any coin. The ticker field is just a label — the math works the same for BTC, ETH, SOL, memecoins, or stablecoins, as long as your prices and quantity use consistent units.
