Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information SmartCryptoCalcs ("we," "us," "our") collects when you visit smartcryptocalcs.com, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We wrote this in plain English on purpose. If something is unclear, contact us through the form at /contact.

By using this site, you agree to the data practices described below. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

Introduction

SmartCryptoCalcs is an independent publisher of free crypto and DeFi calculators and educational content based in the United States. We are a small operation, not a corporation with a global data warehouse. We collect as little as we can get away with while still keeping the site running, useful, and ad-supported.

The most important thing to understand up front is this: our calculators run entirely in your browser. The numbers you type into our calculators (amounts, prices, dates, cost basis, wallet balances, projections) are processed by JavaScript on your device and are never transmitted to our servers. We cannot see them. We do not log them. We do not store them in any database.

The rest of this policy explains the data we do see, which is much narrower.

What information we collect

1. Server request logs

Like virtually every website on the internet, our web server records a basic log entry for each request. This typically includes:

  • Your IP address
  • The date and time of the request
  • The URL you requested
  • The HTTP status code returned
  • Your browser's User-Agent string
  • The referring URL (if any)

We use these logs for security (blocking abusive traffic, investigating attacks), debugging (figuring out why a page is broken), and capacity planning. Request logs are kept on the server for a limited rolling window and are not used to build advertising profiles.

2. Contact form submissions

If you write to us through the form at /contact, we collect the name, email address, subject, and message you provide. This information is sent to the operator by email. By default, contact submissions are not stored in any database on our server. We use them only to read your message and, if appropriate, to reply.

We may not be able to respond to individual inquiries, but every message is read.

3. Cookies and similar technologies

When you visit the site, cookies and similar storage technologies may be set in your browser. We group them into three categories:

  • Necessary cookies. Required for the site to function. These include session cookies and CSRF tokens that protect against cross-site request forgery on the contact form. They cannot be disabled without breaking core functionality.
  • Analytics cookies. If you opt in, Google Analytics sets cookies that help us understand which pages people visit, how they got there, and roughly where in the world they are coming from (country/region level). We use this to decide what to build next.
  • Advertising cookies. If you opt in, Google AdSense and its partners set cookies that allow them to serve and measure ads, including more relevant ads where allowed by your jurisdiction.

When you first visit the site from a region that requires consent (such as the EU/EEA, UK, or certain US states), you will see a cookie consent banner. You can accept all categories, reject the optional categories, or customize your choices. You can change your mind later by reopening the banner from the link in the site footer.

How we use information

We use the limited information described above to:

  • Operate, maintain, secure, and improve the site
  • Respond to and learn from messages you send us
  • Understand which content is useful (aggregate analytics)
  • Serve and measure advertising, where you have consented
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We do not build behavioral profiles for our own marketing because we do not do email marketing. We do not have an email list.

Sharing of information

We share information only in the following limited circumstances:

  • Advertising partners. If you consent to advertising cookies, Google and its ad-tech partners may receive information about your visit (including IP address and cookie identifiers) to serve and measure ads. Google AdSense's data practices are described at https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
  • Analytics provider. If you consent to analytics cookies, Google Analytics receives information about your visit. Google's general privacy policy is at https://policies.google.com/privacy. We use IP anonymization where supported.
  • Service providers. We use a hosting provider to run the site and an email provider to deliver contact-form submissions. These vendors process data only to provide their services to us.
  • Legal requirements. We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, court order, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of SmartCryptoCalcs, our users, or the public.

We do not share contact form contents with advertisers or analytics providers.

Cookies in detail

Necessary

Required for site functionality (sessions, CSRF protection, remembering your cookie consent choice). These are set automatically and do not require consent because the site would not work without them.

Analytics (opt-in)

Google Analytics 4. Helps us see which guides and calculators are actually used, so we can prioritize updates. You can opt out by declining the analytics category in our cookie banner, by using your browser's "Do Not Track" or Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals where we honor them, or by installing Google's opt-out browser add-on.

Advertising (opt-in)

Google AdSense and its certified partners. These cookies enable ad delivery and measurement, including, where permitted, personalized advertising. You can:

Opting out of personalized ads does not eliminate ads on the site; you will still see ads, but they will be less tailored.

Google AdSense disclosure

SmartCryptoCalcs uses Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on our site. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this and other sites on the internet. You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings or learn more about Google's advertising data practices at https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads.

Google Analytics disclosure

We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC, to understand how visitors use our site. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies. The information generated (including a truncated IP address) is transmitted to and stored by Google. For more information, see https://policies.google.com/privacy. You can prevent Google Analytics tracking by declining the analytics category in our cookie banner or by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Your rights

GDPR (EU/EEA and UK visitors)

If you are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Withdraw consent at any time (for processing based on consent)
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

To exercise these rights, contact us at /contact. Because we hold very little personal data (essentially server logs and any contact emails you have sent us), most requests can be honored quickly.

CCPA / CPRA (California residents)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to request deletion, the right to correct inaccurate information, and the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not sell personal information for money. To the extent that advertising cookies are considered "sharing" under California law, you can opt out by declining the advertising category in our cookie banner or by using a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal in your browser, which we honor.

To submit a request, use the form at /contact and indicate "California privacy request" in the subject. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

Other US state laws

We extend similar access, deletion, correction, and opt-out rights to residents of other US states that grant equivalent rights (such as Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, and others). Use the same contact form.

Children's privacy

SmartCryptoCalcs is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13 years of age (or under 16 in jurisdictions where that is the threshold). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

International users

The site is operated from the United States and intended primarily for a US audience. If you access the site from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be processed in the United States, which may not provide the same level of data protection as your home country. By using the site, you consent to this transfer.

Data retention

  • Server request logs: retained for a limited operational window, typically not exceeding 90 days.
  • Contact form emails: retained in the operator's email account at the operator's discretion; you may request deletion via /contact.
  • Cookies: retention varies by cookie. Necessary cookies expire when your session ends; analytics and advertising cookies follow the lifetimes set by the respective vendor.

Security

We use industry-standard measures (HTTPS site-wide, hardened server configuration, software updates, principle of least privilege) to protect the limited data we hold. No system is perfectly secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security of any data transmitted to or stored by us.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the latest revision. Material changes will be noted on the site. Continued use of the site after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

Contact

For any privacy question, request, or complaint, contact us through the form at /contact. Please include enough detail for us to act on your request. We may not be able to respond to individual inquiries, but all privacy requests are reviewed.
